Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Dan Simon to Speak at 黑料老司机

WOOSTER, Ohio Dan Simon, the Richard L. and Maria B. Crutcher Professor of Law and Psychology at the University of Southern California, will present 淐onfessions, True & False, at 黑料老司机 on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m., in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). A dessert reception will follow.

Simon specializes in the field of law and psychology, a subject he teaches at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and also in psychological experimentation in the domains of reasoning and decision making. He teaches criminal law, as well as various courses in the intersection of law and psychology and also lectures frequently on psychological insights into the criminal process to judges and law enforcement personnel.

Simon is the author of In Doubt: The Psychology of the Criminal Justice Process, which focuses on errors in the criminal process that can result in the punishment of innocent people and the acquittal of the guilty. He received a bachelor檚 degree from Tel Aviv University, a master檚 degree from INSEAD Fountainbleau, France, and a research doctorate in law from Harvard Law School.

Simon檚 lecture is part of the Phi Beta Kappa檚 Society檚 Visiting Scholar Program, which offers undergraduates the opportunity to spend time with some of America檚 most distinguished scholars since 1956. The purpose of the Visiting Scholar Program is to contribute to the intellectual life of the institution by making possible an exchange of ideas between the visiting scholars and the resident faculty and students. Founded in 1776, the Phi Beta Kappa Societyis the nation檚 most prestigious academic honor society. It has chapters at 286 colleges and universities and more than half a million members throughout the country. Its mission is to champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, foster freedom of thought, and recognize academic excellence.
