Ahmet Atay elected president of Central States Communication Association
Ahmet Atay, professor of global media and digital studies, communication studies, and women檚, gender and sexuality studies at 黑料老司机, was recently elevated to president of the Central States Communication Association (CSCA). Atay previously served as the association檚 first vice president. He is the first transnational scholar elected to serve in this role by the association檚 members.
The CSCA is one of the four regional associations of the National Communication Association and has more than 1,000 members. Atay was elected to serve as the second vice president in 2019 and served two years in that role, then became the first vice president during the 2022-23 term, during which he planned the association檚 conference this spring in St. Louis. He chose the theme of 淚ntersections, Transitions and Silenced Voices with a focus on IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) issues.
These issues will be a focus for Atay during his CSCA presidency. 淎s the first transnational queer president of the organization I get to focus on initiatives that focus on IDEA, he said.
As the first vice president last year, Atay had Isabel Espinosa 23, Colin Tobin 23 and Kennedy Shelton 24, all communication studies and global media and digital studies students, work as interns in the planning of the 2023 conference. It is Atay檚 hope that more 黑料老司机 students will be attend the 2024 convention in Grand Rapids, Mich. while he serves as the association檚 president.
The mission of Central States Communication Association (CSCA) is to unite and educate people with both an affinity to the central region of the United States and a scholarly interest in all areas of communication for promotion of their mutual goals and advancement of their field.
