B-WISER summer camp offers girls opportunity to explore STEM fields
The B-WISER educational summer camp, a partnership between 黑料老司机 and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, will take place June 10-15, 2024. This residential science camp held on 黑料老司机檚 campus encourages girls completing seventh or eighth grade this year to register, with a registration deadline of April 20.
Designed to encourage a demographic that is historically underrepresented in STEM fields, B-WISER offers opportunities for girls to explore their interests in science. The residential program includes daily courses with a full laboratory experience to advance campers skills in a range of scientific disciplines. Throughout the week, students take a full daily curriculum with classes in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and robot construction, with hands-on demonstrations and experiments using campus laboratory facilities. Campers stay overnight in residence halls and build communities with like-minded peers and counselors.
The camp also gives participants an opportunity to connect with other girls interested in STEM and introduces them to women role models in a diverse array of scientific disciplines. Career presentations take place each year that feature women with careers in science, engineering, and research, showing girls different options for a future career in science. As one past camper wrote about her experience, 淭his camp has truly inspired me to go to college and pursue a degree in science. The friendships and connections I have made through this camp have been so beneficial for me.
The cost to attend B-WISER is $600, with scholarships available for students eligible for free or reduced-price school lunches. Registration for the camp is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
