This book examines and critiques various elements surrounding the existence of a postmodern avant-garde, the nature of the historical dialectic of the avant-garde, and the ultimate role which conflict plays in the formation of these artistic and aesthetic dimensions. It subsequently answers the challenges raised by these discoveries through the positing of a reformulated aesthetic expressionism. This project discusses issues currently facing the art world, and therefore is of pertinence to our time. I wish to continue an examination of these topics in my Graduate work and beyond.
